Frequently asked questions
How many bags of concrete make a yard?
A cubic yard is 27 ft³. At QUIKRETE's published yields that is 45 bags of 80 lb (0.60 ft³), 60 bags of 60 lb (0.45 ft³) or 90 bags of 40 lb (0.30 ft³), before any waste allowance.
Do Quikrete and Sakrete bags yield the same?
Nearly. Both data sheets list 0.30 ft³ for 40 lb, 0.45 ft³ for 60 lb and 0.60 ft³ for 80 lb. The 90 lb bag differs: 0.675 ft³ for QUIKRETE 1101 and 0.66 ft³ for Sakrete High-Strength.
When should I use bags instead of ready-mix?
Bags suit small pours such as post holes, steps and small pads. For larger pours, compare the bag count from the bag calculator with a ready-mix quote; mixing dozens of bags by hand is slow and makes even placement harder.
How much water does an 80 lb bag of concrete need?
QUIKRETE says to start with about 6 pints (2.8 L) per 80 lb bag of Concrete Mix 1101 and go up to about 9 pints (4.3 L) at most, for a 2–3 in slump.
